Three generations strong in Central Pennsylvania.

Esh Builders has been a family company from the very first day. Matthew’s grandfather, Ammon Esh, started it in the early 1990s to give his nine sons honest work, taking on general construction around Gratz. Three generations later, the family still is the company. Today it’s run by Matthew, his father Gideon, and his brother Michael.

Early 1990s
Ammon Esh founds Esh Builders near Gratz, taking on general construction and honest work for all nine sons.
Early 2000s
Jesse Esh carries the tools toward drywall, planting the roots of today’s Esh Drywall, which he still runs.
2012
Gideon Esh, Matthew’s father, takes the helm and begins growing the company.
2017
Matthew steps into management, and the company shifts toward exterior work.
2020
The first ProVia windows go in, and the crew completes ProVia factory training.
2024 to 2025
A new shop opens in Herndon, where you’ll find the crew today.

We’re not a storm-chasing outfit that blows through town after the next big hail. We live here. When we install your roof, side your home, or set your windows, we’re working in the same community we’ll run into you at the store. The standard Ammon set in the early ’90s is still the only one we build to.

“Building What Matters” refers to the buildings we create — and a lot more. We're building a positive company every day through hard work and integrity, and we're building relationships that matter: with our Creator, our co-workers, our customers, our vendors, and whoever crosses our path. It also reminds us of an important project of our own — our character. Day to day, we're striving to build that, too. Let's make it positive.

Matthew Esh

Owner · Third generation

Third-generation owner, carrying on the trade his grandfather Ammon started to give his nine sons honest work. One of the first things Matthew remembers building is a set of barn doors on Million Dollar Road in Halifax, alongside his grandpa. His standard has not moved since. It is good or it is bad, and there is no good enough.

Gideon Esh

Partner · Service work

Matthew's father, and the man who made the work look easy long before anyone called it a career. Gideon likes building, designing, and restoring things back to a useful purpose, and describes his own job here as being the where-needed-most person. The advice he passes along is that the flexible never get bent out of shape.

Michael Esh

Partner · Sales Manager

Matthew's brother and a partner in the business. Michael handles sales, which at a family company mostly means walking the property, listening, and giving a straight answer about what the house needs and what it does not.

Joseph M.

Project Success Coordinator

Joseph coordinates project success, which in plain terms means making sure a job that was sold properly also gets finished properly, and that nothing falls through the gap between the two.

Steven K.

Project Manager

Steven came in wanting to learn construction and now runs scheduling and materials for the roofing side, with a few days a week still spent out on the job. He measures a week by whether the customer stayed happy.

Brenda H.

Executive Assistant

Brenda brought years of administrative experience and one condition, that none of it would involve field work. She is usually the voice on the phone, and she wants you off that call knowing the company actually heard what matters to you.

Jeff H.

Billing

Jeff has enjoyed building things for as long as he can remember, and finish work is still the part he likes best. These days he handles the billing, and it gets the same attention he used to give a trim detail.

Benuel Esh

Team Leader

Benuel came to work for his uncle in 2019 because he wanted to be outside more. He runs the roofing crew now and enjoys the jobs that put up a fight. Ask him the best part and he will say the company of a crew that takes pride in finishing well.

Allen K.

Team Leader

Allen leads a crew and sets the bar high on every one, which he describes as turning what a customer pictured into the real thing. He keeps up with the tools and the methods, and the crews get the benefit of it.

Elmer G.

Team Leader

Elmer leads one of the install crews, running the day on site so the work moves and the property gets left the way it was found.

Wesley Z.

Team Leader

Wesley wanted into construction and took the opening when it came. He handles much of the door work, and the job he is proudest of is the Gene Artz project over in Hegins.

Vince M.

Installer

Vince took roofing on full time partly to stay in shape, and has since been trained on every roof system the company installs. Traditional metal is his favorite. What he likes is a house looking different at the end of the week than it did at the start.

Micah got into the trade through his brother and does roofing, metal and shingle both.

Quill S.

Installer

Quill is on the install crews, working across the roofing, siding, and window jobs the company takes on.

Jeremiah S.

Installer

Jeremiah has been with Esh since 2022. He likes working with his hands and watching a project come together, and he judges a day by whether the work got done right.

Chris K.

Installer

Chris started at sixteen, helping his dad build the family house. He handles the ProVia door, window, and siding installs, and the word that comes up about him most is dependable.
